It ensures that the cleaning edge maintains uniform, stable pressure across the entire surface of the photoconductor drum to cleanly sweep away residual toner powder after every print cycle.

While you can sometimes reuse the bracket if it is in perfect condition, it is highly recommended to replace it if it shows any signs of warping, bending, or rust. Even a microscopic bend in the metal frame will cause uneven blade pressure, leading to immediate toner streaks or accelerated wear on your expensive imaging drum.

The most common indicators include persistent vertical lines down your copies, background smudging, or toner leaking inside the machine. Physically, if you remove the bracket and place it on a flat surface, any gaps or rocking indicate that the metal has warped and must be replaced.

The elongated slots allow for precise micro-adjustments during installation. Because copier tolerances are incredibly tight, technicians use these slots to perfectly align the bracket parallel to the drum, ensuring the cleaning edge makes flawless contact without being too tight (which flips the blade) or too loose (which leaves toner behind).

Unlike the flexible rubber cleaning blades—which are standard consumables replaced during routine maintenance cycles—the metal brackets are long-life components. They typically only need replacement if they are physically damaged during a previous repair, severely caked with hardened waste toner, or when refurbishing an entire high-volume drum unit.
