Other Details

Laboratory and field vane tests are used for the determination of shear strength in soils such as soft, sensitive clay with shear strengths of 20kPa or less. Vane tests are applicable where it is difficult to obtain specimens or where extrusion from a sampling tube may cause disturbance.

MTS - 172 Vane Shear Apparatus, Laboratory IS: 2720 (Part30)

Consists of a torque head adjustable in height by means of a lead screw rotated by a drive wheel to enable the vane to be lowered into the specimen. Rotation of the vane is by means of a hand wheel which operates a worm gear arrangement turning the upper end of a calibrated torsion spring. The vane shaft is attached through the hollow upper shaft to a resettable pointer, which indicates the angle of torque on a dial graduated in degrees. The dial reading multiplied by spring factor gives the torque. Supplied with a container for soil sample and set of springs, one each of approx. 2kg-cm, 4kg-cm and 8kg-cm in a wooden carrying case.

MTS - 173 Vane Shear Apparatus, Laboratory (Motorised)

Similar to MTS - 172, but electrically operated. Rate of rotation is 1 /60 r.p.m. Suitable for operation on230V, 50Hz, Single phase, A.C. Supply.
