Intelligent Optical Smoke Detector are comprised of pulsing LED located at the chamber within the housing of the detector. At an angle to the LED is a photo-diode. In the event of smoke from fire entering the chamber, the light pulse from the LED will be scattered and hence registered by the diode. The detector housing is identical to that of the ionization detector. The indicator LED which is clear in quiescent state produces red light when detector changes to alarm state.
